Q: How do I begin?
Assessment/Admitting for Individualized Care in the Access Center
When you or your family decide to seek help, you will begin the assessment process. This process provides our professional staff an opportunity to ask about your medical history, drug and alcohol use, how you are feeling now and what brought you to Fairbanks. Following the assessment, the team will recommend an appropriate level of treatment, which can include either inpatient or outpatient services. During this initial evaluation, a treatment plan can be devised that is personalized and just right for you and your family. You will then meet with an admission specialist who will enroll you in the program recommended by the assessment team. This person will help you get better acquainted with the facility and your treatment program.
Admission Criteria
- Adults: 18 years of age or older
- Adolescents: ages 13 to 18
- Seeking recovery from alcohol and/or drug abuse and addiction
- Medically and psychologically manageable
- Willing and motivated to participate in a treatment program
- Adequate resources to pay for the treatment program (insurance, self-pay, sliding fee scale, or patient assistance)
- Seeking treatment services that do not require a locked, restricted environment
Federal regulations now require proof of identity at the time of assessment/admission, in the form of a photo ID. A drivers license, state ID, military ID, passport, employment ID or school ID are acceptable forms of identification. If a minor does not have a photo ID, the parent's ID is sufficient
Participation in Treatment Services
A patient's length of participation in either inpatient or outpatient services will be determined by the initial clinical and medical assessment, recommended level of care and progress with treatment goals. Inpatient stays can vary from a few days to a few weeks. Outpatient sessions occur during several weeks of specialized programming.
Patient Financial Costs
After you, your family and the assessment team have made the decision concerning your level of care, you will be given information about how to contact a Fairbanks financial counselor. The final cost of treatment is determined by the level of care required, the length of a person's participation and medical treatment required.
Fairbanks offers a number of options for paying for treatment services:
- Insurance Coverage - We will assist you by verifying insurance coverage and benefits. Insurance policies and benefits are extremely varied. We suggest you contact your insurance provider and learn about the inpatient or outpatient benefits you may have for your treatment needs. Most insurance companies certify the number of days of treatment or outpatient sessions for only a few at a time. Rarely does a plan approve a long term treatment plan upon admission. These reviews do not guarantee payment by your insurance carrier.
- Self Pay - Self pay discounts, as well as payment plans, are available to individuals who do not have insurance coverage, whose insurance is limited for addiction treatment services or to individuals who want to pay privately for their treatment services. Prior to admission, a partial payment will be requested. Prompt pay discounts are also available.
- Charity Care - Consistent with the mission, vision and values of Fairbanks, we also provide charity care, for individuals needing treatment services who cannot afford to pay their bill. Individuals who qualify for charity care will receive a discount from charges. The percentage of the discount is determined by the patient's income and family size in relationship to the most recently published Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Some patients may also qualify for an additional reduction from charges via the patient scholarship fund. This fund is limited, for it is generated through Fairbanks' fundraising efforts. It is used to grant additional write-offs based on qualifying information including the patient's commitment to long term recovery.
Timely submission of documents including proof of income and family size are required in order to qualify for charity care or patient scholarship funds. In order to provide these reductions in charges to as many individuals as possible, eligible patients are also asked to participate in a partial payment prior to admission for treatment services.
